Kojima Productions has offered the first glimpse of its upcoming animated feature, now titled Death Stranding: Mosquito. Franchise creator Hideo Kojima seems to have many plans to expand the Death Stranding IP in the coming years, with Mosquito being just one of the projects in development in association with his Tokyo-based studio, Kojima Productions.
Fans might be interested to know that, in addition to the Mosquito animated film, Kojima Productions is also working on a live-action adaptation of Death Stranding, produced by A24. An intriguing aspect of both films is that they will tell entirely new stories while still using the familiar Death Stranding setting. The new trailer for the anticipated anime feature confirms this by teasing an unprecedented detail about the mysterious protagonist.
Death Stranding: Mosquito to Introduce a Strange New Protagonist
In a teaser trailer released during the Beyond the Strand event, Kojima Productions shared two minutes of the upcoming animated film Death Stranding: Mosquito, featuring a bizarre protagonist. Likely nicknamed Mosquito, the character wears a strange mask that appears to let them “suck something” from their enemies’ bodies. However, it’s unclear how this ability aids them in combat or how they acquired it in the first place. It’s also worth noting that the title Death Stranding: Mosquito is temporary and may change, though the current official poster uses it.
As for the team behind Death Stranding: Mosquito, Hideo Kojima serves as producer, and it is being directed by Hiroshi Miyamoto, known for anime like Pretty Cure Dream Stars! The screenwriter is Aaron Guzikowski, who wrote acclaimed projects such as the TV series Raised by Wolves and the film Prisoners, starring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal. Guzikowski was one of the first names revealed when the Death Stranding animated movie was initially teased. ABC Animation Studio is handling the animation, while Studio Easter, one of the companies behind the popular anime Dandadan, is working on the film’s background designs.
Fans have already started speculating about how the protagonist’s mosquito-like ability works and what it might signify in Death Stranding‘s post-apocalyptic world. They are also curious about the character’s intentions, as “Mosquito” can be seen fighting a porter intensely in the trailer’s second half. For now, fans will have to wait for more official details, as it’s difficult to discern exactly what’s happening in Death Stranding: Mosquito‘s story. Unfortunately, there is no official release date or window yet, and the only information revealed so far is the short teaser trailer and the key names behind the project.
